MOVE
A DANCE HOUSE
Dance, in it’s purest form, is an expression of life. Therefore, any building hoping to cater to dance must inspire emotion; even from the simple, monotonous passage of time. From this idea, MOVE was born.

Dance studios, pressed right against the sidewalk, are wrapped in a translucent screen. Solid walls do not obscure the movement within. Neither do transparent facades expose the dancers to harsh light and undiscerning gazes. Instead, the screen becomes a part of the dance itself. At night, the facade comes to life as silhouettes glide across the illuminated expanse. The shadows entice the pedestrian in, and offer a new perspective on dance. A new perspective on life.

While the translucent walls draw viewers in at night, their most important function occurs during the day. In the glowing hours of the morning, the studios are set ablaze and the ordinary is turned extraordinary. In the bright light of the afternoon, shadows of passers-by are cast against the screen in the sidewalk ballet. Here, in this celebration of normality, inspiration is found.
The dance studios, in an effort to provide a variety of experiences, each offer a different set of views and lighting conditions. In the smaller spaces, a frosted glass ceiling spreads diffuse light, mimicking the main performance space; while, natural light is let in from a varied amount of sides in each studio.
